BMS Commissioning, Trending, and Energy Optimization
This advanced course prepares technicians to verify, tune, and optimize building automation systems for maximum efficiency and operational persistence. Students examine the complete commissioning process, progressing from point-to-point checkouts and field sensor calibration to comprehensive end-to-end functional performance testing. Emphasis is placed on setting up automated trend logs, interpreting time-series operational data, and identifying mechanical and control deficiencies such as hunting, simultaneous heating and cooling, and short-cycling. Learners implement advanced supervisory energy conservation measures, including static pressure resets, supply water temperature resets, and demand-controlled ventilation algorithms. Practical diagnostic methodologies help students quantify energy impacts, balance occupant comfort against thermal loads, and maintain regulatory compliance. Through rigorous data analysis, loop tuning, and systematic functional testing across central plants and terminal distribution equipment, participants gain the practical troubleshooting proficiency required to transition installations from initial startup to persistent, optimized baseline operation.
